A personal digital certificate is like a digital ID card that resides on your computer. At UVA, you can use your certificate to authenticate to eduroam WiFi, Netbadge, and VPN.

These instructions apply to the following operating systems:

Windows 10

macOS

iOS

Android

Download the UVA Network Setup Tool

1. If you are On Grounds, navigate to this webpage.

Windows 10 example.

1a. For iOS devices follow the instructions on the final screen (click image to enlarge): Go to Settings, click Profile Downloaded, then click Install.

Note: As of this writing, the web page will not correctly detect macOS Big Sur, so you will need to use the dropdown menu to select the correct operating system.

2. Click Continue and download the UVA Network Setup Tool.

3. Navigate to your Downloads folder and launch the UVA-NetworkSetupTool.  Enter your credentials if required.

4. Click Next.

5. You will be redirected to a Netbadge login page.  Enter your credentials and authenticate with Duo.

6. The UVA Network Setup Tool will then open again and configure the certificate.  Click Next.

NOTE: The tool will automatically attempt to join the eduroam WiFi network if you are On Grounds.

If you are not On Grounds or if your device does not have WiFi capability, the tool will warn you that it cannot connect, but will still install your digital certificate.  The web page it opens will tell you something went wrong. Don't worry, this just means it cannot connect to eduroam.

7. Click Continue > Done.
