About
The Educational Technologies Office will be decommissioning the legacy PaperCut server on June 14th, 2024, and it will be replaced by the upgraded ed-print PaperCut server that is more secure and faster than its predecessor.
Updated Network Printing at EHD documentation is located here.
If you have any questions, please contact the ETO at [email protected], 434-924-7086, or Ridley 121.
Print Deploy
New to EHD, Print Deploy is an application that supports secure IPPS printing and automatically installs the Secure Black&White and Color queues. Whereas previously print jobs were sent in unencrypted plain text format over the UVA network, with Print Deploy and the new print server all print jobs will be encrypted from the workstation to server and then back to the copiers.
When Print Deploy is first installed and you are connected to VPN or On-Grounds network, you may be prompted to sign in. Enter your UVA Computing ID and Eservices password and then click Sign in and add printers.
Note: Departmental Printers (if available) can be installed by selecting Add printers as shown in the upper left and clicking Install. There is currently only a single EDHS departmental printer at EHD, and it is only available to some EDHS employees.
PaperCut
A new version of PaperCut will be deployed to all EHD Windows and macOS computers. The client looks and functions the same as the legacy client but is connected to the new print server.
Known Issues
1. Deployment Schedule:
On Windows and macOS, our management systems are configured to deploy the new Print Deploy and PaperCut software approximately every 2 hours. If your computer is not online at one of those times, then it will install at the next scheduled window. If you need to print and your computer has not yet installed the new software you may refer to these instructions or contact our office at 434-924-7086, [email protected], or in Ridley 121 for assistance.
2. Swipe Card on Copier:
We have imported UVA ID Card numbers from the old server, but some employees may need to re-associate their UVA ID Card with their Eservices (Netbadge) credentials. To do this, swipe your UVA ID Card at a copier and enter your UVA computer ID and password and tap Associate.
3. Inaccessibility while Off-Grounds:
As an added security measure, the ed-print server is not accessible while Off-Grounds and so while the PaperCut and Print Deploy software can be installed automatically, Print Deploy will be unable to install the print queues while not connected to an On-Grounds network. For Print Deploy to install the print queues your computer must be either connected to the UVA VPN or an On-Grounds wired or wireless network.
Once connected to UVA VPN or On-Grounds network, it only takes a couple minutes to install the print queues.
